Seasamh Le Cheíle. Stand together.

Gaelic Football is a field sport that originated in Ireland and played as far back as the 1600s. It’s played with a round ball (similar to a soccer ball) that can be toe tapped, passed, and ultimately kicked into a goal or through uprights.

The SAGAC Mens Team was established in 2011 and since has played all over Texas as well as National tournaments in Philadelphia, Cleveland, Boston, Seattle, and Denver.

Ladies Gaelic Football

Mens Gaelic Football

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association was founded in 1974. It’s considered to be one of the fastest growing female sports in Europe and has continued its growth in the United States and the world over.

Following similar rules as Mens Gaelic Football, the sport is played with a round ball that can be toe tapped, passed, and ultimately kicked into a goal or through uprights.

The SAGAC’s Ladies Football Team celebrated its first year in 2017, but women from the Club have been playing in organized games since 2012. Since then, they’ve played against women’s teams across Texas as well as tournaments in Philadephia, Denver, and Leesburg, VA.

Hurling

Hurling is believed to be the world’s oldest field game, often cited as thousands of years old. When the Celts came to Ireland as the last ice age was receding, they brought with them a unique culture, their own language, music, script and unique pastimes. One of these pastimes was a game now called hurling.

The rules are similar to Gaelic Football except the game is played with a playing stick, or “hurley,” and ball or “sliotar.” This equipment is used to carry, pass, score and defend.

Youth sports

The SAGAC Youth Sports Initiative began in 2018. With the aim of introducing kids to the games of Hurling and Gaelic football. The Youth Initiative hosts a number of free clinics each year in the San Antonio area, teaching the basic skills of Irish sports.

Boys and Girls (16 and under) are welcome to attend. These clinics are coached by Certified GAA youth trainers in a safe and fun environment.

we don’t get to decide when we are tested but when the moment comes, remember who you are, remember what you stand for, and what it took to get here
